7 Movies you should totally watch if you are a romantic geek

It’s pouring LOVE this season. The single and ready to mingle, the one madly in love and the heartbroken, here’s everything for the romantic heads. From the intense love story of two people mannequins of fate ‘The Notebook’ to the rom-com favorite ‘When Harry Met Sally’. None of the love stories are the same. Some have an evil-minded villain and some paint the misfortune of the beloved ones. It’s been a difficult task for me to enlist all of our favorites in the genre but nonetheless, I’ve come up with the best ones.

Here is a list of 7 romantic movies you ought to watch people

Titanic (1997):

Directed and written by James Cameron, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. It is a story of two people from different social classes who fall in deep love on an ill-fated voyage. Cameron’s vision to portray an incomplete love story integrated with the human loss has been effectively conveyed through the movie. It’s a treat to the eyes on one side and an ache to the heart on the other.

No wonder why it sought so much appreciation in its time. No, no!! I’m wrong. Its time may never end. Its reign won’t end. The release of a 3D version of Titanic in 2012 is the true testimonial that we love Jack and Rose no matter how many times we’ve seen them make love and retreat in that last scene where both of them ride into the ocean on a wooden plank and Jack promises Rose that she will die an old woman. Jack dies of hypothermia and Rose is saved. There’s no heart that didn’t cry at the scene.

When harry met sally (1989):

Can a man and woman be friends?? Well, according to Harry; “Men and Women can’t be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.” The story sets in 1977 when Harry, our hero, and Sally, the heroine have their first encounter as they share the ride to New York after graduation. The meet is short and hilarious and they pull off on unfriendly terms. Another meet goes off with conflicting opinions on, obviously, the impossibility of male-female friendship.

The movie takes a 5-year leap when both of them have a chance meeting in a bookstore. Their dating experiences with other people continue to make them realize how different they are from each other. Eventually, both find themselves attracted to each other and, well, have sex. The story becomes interesting now. The writer Nora Ephron has shrewdly woven the heated arguments of the leads with Harry’s sense of humor which makes it more pleasing. The movie has been ranked 23rd on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Laughs list of top comedy films in American cinema.

The notebook (2004):

The most well-received work of Nicholas Sparks was made into a movie by Director Nick Cassavetes and Producer Lynn Harris. The modern-day love story of an old couple. As the title suggests ‘The Notebook’ plays a vital role in remembering love that once blossomed. Noah and Allie meet in 1940’s in Seabrook and have a summer love affair. Circumstances make them live apart for seven years. Allie gets engaged and later gets to know that Noah is still waiting for her in Seabrook. She rushes to him only to realize that she hasn’t stopped loving him.

They spend an amazing time together followed by passionate lovemaking. Told by her mom, Allie realizes she has been escaping reality and that she is engaged. She remains indecisive. Ultimately, she returns to Noah. In the present, it is revealed that Allie has been suffering from dementia and Noah is reading their story from the notebook since then. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have done a remarkable job. You should certainly watch this film.

A walk to remember (2002):

A Walk to Remember is an American coming-of-age romantic drama film based on Nicholas Sparks’ 1999 Novel of the same name. It is a story of how love changes a life of a rebellious young lad Landon (Shane West). Landon is a young spoilt brat who meets Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) whilst the drama practice at the school. Jamie accepts to help him learn his lines for the part only on the condition that he won’t fall for her.

Initially this idea seemed comic to Landon but eventually, working together he rises in love with her, correctly speaking. Later he is informed that Jamie is suffering from leukaemia. Landon makes efforts to prove his love for her in the short time she has. In the end, Jamie’s leukaemia ends up killing her. Landon visits the docks contemplating the belief that although Jamie is dead, she is with him. It is then that he understands love is like the wind; you can’t see it, but you can feel it. You will understand the same too!

Pretty woman (1990):

Ahead of its time, the story revolves around the connection between a Hollywood Hooker and a successful corporate raider. In a brief encounter Edward Lewis (Richard Geremakesesds Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts) amazingly attractive and offers her $3000 to stay with him for a week and accompany him at few social events as his girlfriend. Trouble ensues when the man is head over heels in love with her. Both try to bridge the gap between them. The punch line in the poster says it all- “She walked off the street into his life and stole his heart.” The movie entails a series of captivating scenes between both the leads. None of the parts went boring. An amazing treat to the eyes and the heart!

Before sunrise (1995):

Set in June, 1994 the story about two strangers Jesse, a young American man, and Celine, a young French woman revolves around in the streets of Vienna where both of them disembark their way to US and Paris respectively. Jesse (Ethan Hawke) is a romantic camouflaged as a pessimist and Celine (Julie Delpy) is seemingly romantic, although with some doubts on love, life and religion. The film involves mostly walking and talking in the course of one night. Director Richard Linklater has exquisitely presented contrasting ideas and perspectives of a man and woman on love and life.

Whilst learning to know and understand one another, Céline and Jesse experience and embrace life, suspending their own mortality. The film is based on self-fulfillment and self-discovery through a chance meeting. As the night follows both of them admit their attraction to each other. Understanding the fact that they may never see each other after the sunrise they decide to make the best use of time. In the morning, they decide to meet at the same place, same time after six months. You should definitely watch the movie, such contemplating dialogues!!

Sleepless in Seattle (1993):

It’s very creative of Jeff Arch to write a love story where the man and woman haven’t met but are simply attracted to the idea of having each other. Annie (Meg Ryan) finds out about Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) accidentally while tuning into a radio talk show. She pities him. On the other hand, realizing that Sam has still not come to terms with his wife Maggie’s death, his eight-year-old son Jonah forces him to call a national radio talk show, with the hopes of finding him a companion. In one or the other way, events bring them closer and they end up meeting each other for the first time at the top of the Empire State Building. The movie ends on a happy note.
HAPPY VIEWING!!
